Singapore exchange students donate funds for Pangthang School dining hall.

 

Gangtok, May 7: As a part of the Indo-Singapore study and culture exchange programme, the students from Singapore today voluntarily donated Rs30,000 for the construction of dining hall of Pangthang Junior High School.

The exchange programme which had started from May 5 ended today with a thanksgiving ceremony held at the school ground in Pangthang.

CS Rao, the Director of Human Resource and Development Department (HRDD) attended the function as the chief guest.

33 students including four teachers from Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) from Singapore had participated in the five days long exchange programme.

“Sikkim has offered us to learn so many good things about its culture, tradition and ethnicity,” said Mr. Steve Ow from Singapore while addressing the brief function.

A student exchange programme is a programme in which a student typically in secondary or higher education, chooses to visit in a foreign country to learn, among other things, language and culture. The chief guest, Mr. Rao said that such type of study exchange programme is very much relevant in schools.

A joint cultural presentation was made by the students. The chief guest also handed away the certificates to the participants.
