7 Days Ladakh Spellbound — A Walk through Mystical Landscapes
The color changing Pangong Tso, the famed location for Bollywood movie “3 Idiots”, is beautiful beyond words. What strikes the eye in coming first in view of this lake is the lovely colour of its water, especially towards evening, which is of the richest deep blue, over the whole expanse, at morning time, it is of a lighter a very brilliant colour.
Day 1 | Hotel
Delhi
Upon arrival meet and transfer to hotel. Check into hotel and overnight.
Day 2 | B, L, D | Hotel
Delhi – Leh (3500m)
Morning transfer to airport and connect short (60 min) flight to Leh. During the flight you will have spectacular view of Ladakh Himalayan ranges. Upon arrival meet and greets, after that transfer to hotel. Check in and rest till lunch time to acclimatize. Lunch in the hotel.
After lunch your guide will bring you around to explore the main market of Leh and some locals market where Ladakhi women sell the vegetable with little baskets in traditional dresses. Evening back to hotel and have dinner. Overnight in Leh.
Day 3 | B, L, D | Hotel
Leh – Thiksay, Hemis and Stok
After breakfast you will drive to Hemis Monastery (45 km, 1.5 hr). This is the biggest Monastery establishment in ladakh situated in a canyon and at the base of mountain in a green patch of land in a small village of Chomoling where you will admire the rich, colorful frescos of the monastery. It was Built in 1930 AD.
The Museum near the main courtyard exhibits rich artifacts of the monastery.After that you will travel back towards Leh on the same road, visit the Thiksay monastery which resembles the Potala Palace in Tibet. It was founded in 1430 AD by Paldan Sherab (Nephew of Sherb Zangpo). The 12 storey monastery complex contains numerous stupas, statuses, Thanksa and wallpainting. On the roof of the monastery one can see the whole valley of Ladakh.
After that drive towards Leh cross the Indus River at Choklamsar to visit the Stok Royal Palace Museum which is the present resident of the Royal family of Ladakh. It was built during the early 19th century which houses a small interesting museum displaying rich Royal artifacts. From the room of the palace once can have a paronramic view of the stok village and Indus Valley.
After that drive back to Leh and have good rest. Evening Dinner.
Day 4 | B, L, D | Hotel
Leh – Diskit via (Khardong La pass)
After breakfast drive through the Khardong La Pass 5602m which is the Highest Motorable Road in the World. It was only recently opened for tourist’s accessibility.
You will stop on the top of the pass when one cam can see the Snow peak mountains and glacier. Have a cup of hot tea from the highest Cafeteria in the World. This is an old route which used as part of the Legendary Silk Road which ran to Tibet, China & Turkmenistan, behind the Khardong mountain pass.
The Road opens up and you are met with the wonderful view of the fruitful green valley of Ladakh which are watered thanks to Shyok and Nubra waterways—this road was previously on the silk street and lots of Caravans weaved their way further to central Asia—the green Nubra valley was for centuries the resting spot for Camel and Yak caravaners- you will see apple, apricot and lots of mulberry trees in Hunder and other areas, Lamaism plays an important role in life in this area.
After that continue drive through Nubra valley to Diskit (4 hrs). Upon reaching check in Guest House. Late afternoon, optional: You can also enjoy the Becterian (Double hump) camel in the sand dune between Hunder and Diskit village. Overnight at Diskit.
Day 5 | B, L, D | Hotel
Diskit – Leh
After breakfast visit Diskit Monastery, The Diskit monastery was founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo in the 14th century. The history of the Nubra Valley and the monastery could thus be traced from 14th century onwards. It has a tallest statue of Maitreya Buddha in Ladakh. After that visit Sumoor village and drive back to Leh. Upon arrival check in hotel. You will have your lunch.
After lunch visit famous Leh Army Museum. Late afternoon visit Shanti Stupa for Sunset Tour. The stupa is located on the hill top of the Changspa locality in Leh, it was built in 1983 on the rock and inaugurated by HH Dalai Lam. From this stupa you can see the memorable sunset over the Leh Valley.
After that back to Leh and some free time for shopping. Evening dinner.
Day 6 | B, L, D | Hotel
Leh – Delhi – Singapore
After breakfast, transfer to airport for your flight to Delhi. Upon arrival, meet and start tour around Delhi. Visit Indian Gate, President Palace and Red Fort. You will have lunch in the city center. Late afternoon shopping and dinner. After dinner transfer to airport as per your flight.
Day 7 | B
Arrive Singapore
Early morning arrive Singapore.
